Stitch a secret source of comfort

There's a particular kind of comfort that comes from something you can hold onto. Designed to tuck inside a jacket hem (or worn openly), your FIDGET QUILT becomes a private, portable tool — something to run your fingers over to regulate attention or settle anxiety. In this workshop, you'll piece scrap fabrics by hand or machine, then layer in intuitive hand stitching to build texture and dimension.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

StudioPCL_PhongChiLai.jpg

Phong Chi Lai is a Melbourne/Naarm-based textile artist whose practice centers on improv patchwork, soft sculpture, and the quiet possibilities of hand stitching. Originally trained as a shoe designer, he shifted toward sustainable, community-centered making, working with textile-based social enterprises across Asia before developing his current studio practice rooted in reclaimed textiles and foraged natural dyes. For Phong, stitching is a slow, deliberate form of storytelling — one attuned to texture, memory, and place — which makes him an ideal guide for a workshop built around tactile, intuitive making with real purpose. His instinct for turning humble, reclaimed materials into something meaningful is exactly the sensibility this small, personal project calls for.
