Repair beautifully — SASHIKO ON DENIM invites you into a centuries-old Japanese stitching tradition that transforms wear and damage into something genuinely beautiful. Sashiko was born out of necessity, and what emerged was a practice of intricate, meditative patterns using only a simple running stitch. Instructor Selina Ben will guide you through how to repair holes and weak areas in denim, and how to draw, stitch, and customize the traditional pattern — leaving you with a one-of-a-kind garment that’s even better after mending than when you first got it.

Selina Ben is a textile artist and mender whose practice is rooted in the stories that cloth carries across time. With a background in textile product development, she has built a hands-on practice around pre-used fabrics and historical textiles from around the world — breathing new life into materials that hold memory and meaning. Selina has taught for institutions including Tatter in New York, Wereldmuseum Rotterdam, Fries Museum, and Crafts Council Nederland, bringing deep knowledge and genuine reverence to every workshop she leads. She approaches sashiko not just as a technique, but as an invitation to connect with Japanese craft culture and textile tradition with respect and appreciation.
