Description: Foster hand-sewed 36 dolls—one for each slave-owning ancestor and one for himself—and piled them awkwardly into this antique doll bed found at a local thrift shop. The cramped arrangement visualizes the uncomfortable reality of inherited connections to slavery that persist whether acknowledged or not.
